About the Salt Lake Fish & Game Foundation

The Salt Lake Fish & Game Foundation is a private nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the preservation, protection, and responsible stewardship of Utah’s wildlife, ecosystems, and natural renewable resources.

Originally organized shortly after the turn of the 20th century and incorporated as a nonprofit in 1926, the organization was formerly known as the Salt Lake County Fish & Game Association until adopting its current name in 2017. Despite the historical name, the Foundation has never been affiliated with Salt Lake County or any government agency, nor has it operated as a private hunting or fishing club.

For more than a century, the Foundation has supported conservation, outdoor recreation, nature education, wildlife initiatives, and community partnerships throughout Utah. Through grants, volunteer leadership, committee involvement, and collaborative projects, the Foundation has worked alongside a wide range of organizations, agencies, and community groups to support meaningful conservation and wildlife-related efforts across the state.

The Foundation has long been rooted in family participation, outdoor traditions, and community involvement, with a diverse membership and a strong history of participation by both individuals and families who share an interest in Utah’s outdoor heritage.

Today, the Salt Lake Fish & Game Foundation continues its mission of supporting projects and initiatives that strengthen Utah’s ecosystems, wildlife resources, outdoor recreation opportunities, and conservation education for future generations.

Our standing committees are divided into two categories: Administrative to deal with more formal issues, and Consumptive and Environmental to cover the wide diversity of projects, issues, programs.
